World Cup Daily: Matches and storylines for July 11
With France and Spain set to play each other, we're looking at one half of the final four settled. On Saturday, it's four teams enter, two teams leave in an intriguing doubleheader.
One semifinal match is set, and it'll happen in Texas.
On Tuesday, France plays Spain in Jerryworld, thanks to Spain getting another late goal from closer Mikel Merino to outlast Belgium 2-1. (If anyone has a ticket or a spot in a suite to offer me, I'm amenable!)
Saturday brings us the other semifinal matchup, culled from three UEFA teams and titleholders Argentina. First, it's England vs. Norway in Miami, which is more fans-will-broil coded than the Mexico-Brazil match that this quarterfinal could have been, and there's a new wrinkle to the England story that might just bode well for Norway, if Game 3 of the NBA Finals and the U.S. Round of 16 match against Belgium is any indication.
Then, Argentina faces Switzerland, which deprived us of the Argentina-Colombia match that could have been, but there's a non-zero chance that Lionel Messi's World Cup run ends in Chiefs Kingdom. Look for Switzerland, assuming Johan Manzambi won't play as reported, to be less fun and aim to play 120 minutes of scoreless soccer to get us to PKs.

What to read
While I'm a bit sideeye-prone to link to Ladbible, how can I resist a story with this headline? "England stars could lose over eight pints of sweat in humid World Cup clash vs Norway." Also, The Sun (I know, I know, more sideeye) is letting us know one South Florida weatherman has issued a "swamp ass warning" ahead of Saturday's match in Miami Gardens.

Austin FC is now 1-6-1 in its last eight matches, despite encouraging performances in Leagues Cup matches. Is Davy Arnaud relying too much on certain players ... and not enough on Jayden Nelson?
Austin FC emerged from Leagues Cup play facing its FC Dallas rivals, and got a magical moment from Ervin Torres. But it wasn't enough to stave off another loss, adding to an onoging bad stretch of league play.
With Austin FC's Leagues Cup journey on pause, we look at the next four regular-season matches, starting tonight with a Copa Tejas match Verde hosts against FC Dallas.
Austin FC gets back into league play on Sunday night hosting FC Dallas at home. That gives us an excuse to check in with one of our favorites, Big D Soccer's Drew Epperley.
