The streak is over: Austin FC II's 15-match unbeaten streak ends (and comes full circle)
Soccer is still happening for a team wearing Verde and Black. Though Austin FC II's 10-match win streak and 15-match unbeaten streak ended on Sunday, VerDos is still atop the league.
Through 17 matches this season, Austin FC II has looked like favorites to win a second star over its crest in 2026. That didn't really change on Sunday, though VerDos did what it did to start the season — lost to Minnesota United FC 2.
VerDos' 3-2 loss to the Twoons at Parmer Field on Sunday night broke a 10-match win streak and 15-match unbeaten streak. Its 2026 season started with a loss to the Twoons on March 1, 4-2, despite a pair of goals from Jorge Alastuey.
Sunday's loss, in an eerily similar bookend to the season opener, featured a pair of goals from the 23-year-old Alastuey to give VerDos the halftime lead (bringing his season total to nine), after the Twoons' Mamadou Dieng shocked the home faithful with a goal less than three minutes into the match.
The 22-year-old Dieng, who is on the Minnesota United FC first-team roster as a supplemental player, following earlier USL Championship success with Hartford Athletic, got the winning PK in the 74th minute after Luke Hille tied up the match 10 minutes prior.
Even with the loss, Austin FC II remains atop MLS Next Pro, with a 12W 2L 3D record, with one shutout win, good for 41 points. The regular season ends Sept. 20 at St. Louis, with playoffs to follow.
With an Austin FC-in-transition on pause for another nine days, and Austin FC II still sitting atop the West and league standings, the MLS Next Pro team has been a welcome feel-good story for the club. VerDos will next get to attempt returning to winning ways on July 22 in Vancouver against Whitecaps 2 — the very night that Verde resumes play against Seattle Sounders FC.
Meanwhile, if you're missing Q2, let me remind you that the open practice for season ticket holders is still on for this Saturday, July 18, with details forthcoming.

It took both England and Argentina 120 minutes to do it, but they're back into the semifinals of the World Cup. One of those teams will proceed to the final against the France-Spain winner.
With France and Spain set to play each other, we're looking at one half of the final four settled. On Saturday, it's four teams enter, two teams leave in an intriguing doubleheader.
Two separate sources confirmed to Verde All Day that Austin FC got its first win after five winless matches in a row. Facundo Torres led the way with a goal and an assist.
