'We're doing a lot of things good': Austin FC will attempt to extend its hot streak north of the border

Josh Wolff and Diego Rubio spoke to media prior to Saturday night's tilt with Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Austin FC is winless against them in Canada.

Forget for a moment that Austin FC’s never beat Vancouver Whitecaps FC on BC Place’s tricky turf. Forget that 7th-place Verde is currently looking up at the ‘Caps, currently third in the West and just a point off the lead.

According to striker Diego Rubio, who spoke to media on Thursday prior to the team’s trip up north to face Vancouver, the team’s feeling good about its recent run of form, winning four in five to put a season in danger of derailing firmly back on the tracks.

“We're doing a lot of things good,” Rubio said. “If we want to talk about that, we can take hours.”

He added, “I feel like if we believe, we continue playing this way, where we defend well, if we attack well, we're gonna win all these games. It’s huge. Now I feel like if we win this game, I think we should think that we can win anywhere.”

Austin FC head coach Josh Wolff was a little more even-handed, once again criticizing the media and those on social media for kindling “negativity” over the team’s desultory start but observing that the recent run of form is just a step toward making the playoffs.
