Did Austin FC midfielder Dani Pereira really reveal his contract situation on a Twitch stream?
That’s the story that circulated among fans on Monday, claiming that Pereira said his option year was activated but he didn’t yet have a new contract offer as some of his teammates received recently.
That would explain why there’s not yet a contract extension announcement by the club for Pereira — one of the first ones I expected to be made, believing sporting director Rodolfo Borrell’s assertion that Pereira would be back next year and that he’s an important part of the team.
Pereira’s 24 now, a four-year contributor for Austin FC after being selected first in the club’s first-ever SuperDraft. Pereira’s emerged as the best player in that draft (unless you count second-rounder Jackson Ragen, picked by Chicago, and now a stalwart center back for the Sounders), and he’s still on a contract that paid him $138,414 in guaranteed compensation.
