Here's a true statement that doesn't quite capture the whole story: Facundo Torres has four goals and seven assists for Austin FC in this 2026 MLS season. At nearly 2000 MLS minutes played, the Uruguayan designated player has a goal contribution every 181 minutes, or one every other match.
Taken on its own, those are passable DP numbers, and though they're not quite what he did at Orlando in his three seasons there, they're close, and even hint at consistency in a season that's been inconsistent and downright tumultuous for Verde.
After all, the sporting director who sought him and the coach who reintroduced him to MLS are both gone now, and Torres has been left with his teammates to learn a new system under the direction of a coach who doesn't speak Torres' primary language.
Curiously, though, Torres has actually been on a season-salvaging run of late that the average goal contribution numbers belie.
Taking his last 10 appearances together (in both MLS play and Leagues Cup), Torres has three goals and three assists, including the opening assist in Austin's shocking 2-1 win over Vancouver on Sunday and a draw-salvaging goal against Colorado in the match prior. It's easily the best form he's been in all season — but it follows what's easily been the worst form he's been in all season.
