In 2022, when Emiliano Rigoni was working into the Austin FC lineup as a summer window signing, the prevailing thought was he'd get a bit acclimated and really flourish in 2023 once he got a full offseason under his belt. Still, his zero goal contributions that first semi-season, with seven appearances and 282 minutes, was concerning.
Now, on the other side of a pedestrian-for-a-designated player 11 goal contributions in a full 2023, Rigoni’s got another alarming set of goose eggs.
In 2024 so far, he’s had five games, three starts, and 313 minutes — with zero goals, zero assists, and just a single shot on target — that being the weak end-of-match dribbler in the March 23 match against Orlando City, the season’s low point so far.
And, as many of you are aware, Rigoni hasn’t seen a single minute of action since that match, with Owen Wolff starting in Rigoni’s usual position and providing a spark in two straight wins.
So, what’s to be done?
Let’s dive in, as we’re wont to do here.
