It's becoming one of the defining statistics of Austin FC's 2026 season. Now officially halfway through the 34-game schedule, following its 3-0 loss to Houston Dynamo FC on Saturday night, Austin FC remains the only team in MLS this season without an away win.
"Yeah, I didn't know we didn't have a road win," interim head coach Davy Arnaud said when I put the stat into question form to lead off Saturday's post-match press conference. "I mean, listen, any game on the road in our league is difficult. Against a rival playing at home in a big game, it's going to be a difficult game. We understand that playing in Houston is always a tough game. They're a good team. We're going to approach next week on the road the exact same way. We're going to come out to win the game as as we did tonight, and it didn't work out for us tonight for various reasons. But it doesn't change how we're going to approach next week, and we're hoping that first win on the road comes in Colorado."
Austin FC's road record of 0W 6L 3D, coupled with a more palatable 4W 2L 2D home record, equates to Verde being 14th in the West, now back to six points below the playoff line following positive results for some bottom-dwelling teams steepening the mountain they'll have to climb to get back into playoff position. Indeed, that match against the Rapids next Saturday could steer Verde closer to "mathematically possible" postseason chances territory, given that a win would vault the Rapids (the current 13th-place team in the West) five points above them.
