There have been some surprises in MLS this week. The two biggest ones have nothing to do with play on the field — Jim Curtin was dismissed as the Philadelphia Union’s coach after 10 seasons, amassing a 1.52 PPG average over 420 matches, and the Houston Dynamo declined to pick up Hector Herrera’s 2025 option, meaning that his final action with the club was getting a red card in a playoff-eliminating loss for spitting in the direction of a referee.
But starting on Friday night, and continuing with three back-to-back-to-back matches on Saturday afternoon and evening, MLS playoff soccer is back to help balm whatever else might be ailing us this week.
