'I think this has to hurt': Austin FC gives up six goals in chaotic loss to St. Louis City SC

Austin FC's done a lot of weird things this season, but giving up a half-dozen goals in a match is a historical first.

Seeing Jared Stroud pushed to the turf was satisfying for Austin FC fans — until it wasn’t.

Just more than 20 minutes into the match between Austin FC and St. Louis City SC, a Verde player finally got an opportunity to get a little shot in on the former Verde player. According to Austin FC lore, Stroud goaded Kipp Keller into passing to him during this year’s season opener between the two teams, effectively an assist on what turned out to be a decisive goal for St. Louis’ milestone first win.

So, when Owen Wolff sent Stroud to the turf with a push, it appeared a reminder to the former Austin FC player that Verde doesn’t forget.

But with a foul comes a free kick, and with a St. Louis free kick comes Eduard Löwen, one of MLS’ best set-piece specialists. He found former Houston Dynamo captain Tim Parker with a perfect ball to his ginger-crowned head, and St. Louis took a 1-0 lead that was just only the beginning.
