Austin FC head coach Josh Wolff was encouraged by Saturday night’s 1-0 away win over Minnesota United FC.
“This season is a long, winding, arduous path,” Wolff said in his post-match remarks. “Again, the result on Wednesday, we feel like we maybe let some points [get] away. It was, I think, disappointing, but a positive performance. So today again, back that up, we came in and performed well. The win is important for our team. It's important for the morale, and again, we know how challenging it is to go on the road.”
Repeating his team’s formula for success once again — averaging one point on the road and two points at home and finish in the top four — Wolff summed up the performance with qualified satisfaction.
“The red card obviously accentuates things,” he said, referring to Hassani Dotson’s exit leaving Verde a man up for 65 minutes, “but there was a real onus that we had about us in the start of the game. We deserved the goal, we took the goal. Of course, I always want more goals, and we should do more to create better chances, but we also limited them to one shot on goal, just as we did against LAFC. So six shutouts this year, three points on the road. And again, we just stay humble, stay hungry, keep moving — don’t panic.”
The win moves Austin to 0.9 PPG on the road (2-5-3 in 10 matches) and a 1.35 PPG rate overall, with 1.8 PPG at home (on a 5-2-3 record after 10 home games). So, not quite what Wolff’s aiming for, but moving closer to those goals with the most recent home draw and away win.
