'It is what it is': Reflecting on a draw that still could springboard Austin FC to the playoffs

By splitting the points, Austin FC sets up for a pair of home matches that could make the difference between making the playoffs and staying home.

That’s the thing about Austin FC press conferences, especially the very late night, Media After Dark ones. They can be familiar in their cadences and then predictable in their answers, and then something unexpected unfolds.

Austin FC head coach Josh Wolff gave us one of those moments on Wednesday night worth mentioning, nearly 20 minutes into a session after Austin FC’s 1-1 draw against LAFC.

The match was notable for Jáder Obrian moving past a suspended Sebastián Driussi as the team’s current 2024 goals leader (with six), Osman Bukari continuing to show his abilities, the team only mustering one shot on goal in the first half (but taking the lead on it, showing uncanny efficiency), and an equalizer let in shortly after Wolff made a questionable sub that actually was understandable once we got to talk about.

Let’s get in there.
