'He's bailed us out so many times': Austin FC enjoys its late, latest Copa Tejas win

Sebastián Driussi allowed Austin FC to take all three points in Wednesday night's contest. But another Verde All-Star player also had a solid performance.

Jon Gallagher made it clear after Wednesday night’s win over Houston: The Austin FC players believe in Sebastián Driussi.

“Seba obviously had the mistake on Saturday,” Gallagher said, referring to the 4th-minute giveaway resulting in FC Dallas’s opening goal in what was ultimately a 2-1 Verde loss. “But nobody was angry with him or anything like that because he's bailed us out so many times. Unfortunately, we weren't able to bail him out on Saturday and tie but he showed out again, showed why he's one of the best players in this league. And yeah, another big goal and a massive moment for him. And that's why in those moments, we look to him.”

Austin head coach Josh Wolff echoed those sentiments in his post-match press conference, saying, “Seba’s a special player, he's quite unique. He's important to our game as much as we can get him touches on the ball. It helps bring our team into the space. He's vital to our group whether or not he's having the impact. He still gives the players confidence.”

After covering familiar territory about how Driussi is targeted by opposing players, Wolff added, “He's the guy that steps up. He's our captain. He's one of the best players in the league and I only have positive things to say about him.”
