In the rough-and-tumble sequence that followed LAFC2’s penalty kick equalizer on Friday night, a game-ending PK shootout seemed inevitable.
After the 90 ended 1-1, it would come down to Austin FC II’s rising star, Damian Las, against the visitors’ special guest, Maxime Crepeau, nearing the end of a rehab assignment with the MLS Next Pro team.
Nine months ago, Crepeau started an MLS Cup final and went most of the way, breaking his leg deep in extra time en route to an epic win. On Friday night, before a spirited crowd at Parmer Field, he was trying to keep a team from getting into the MLS Next Pro playoffs.
And, before the shootout, Crepeau let Las know just how involved he’d be in that aim.
