The post-Picault offseason: What it means for Austin FC that it couldn't land Fafa

Now that potential Verde signing Fafa Picault appears to be off to Inter Miami CF, here's what sporting director Rodolfo Borrell could do to improve the roster.

So, it turns out that former Vancouver Whitecaps winger Fafà Picault did have reason to say goodbye to Canadian fans on Friday. It just wasn’t for the reason that vigilant Austin FC fans thought.

With Sunday’s news from MLS transfer authority Tom Bogert that Picault is headed to Inter Miami CF, Verde’s still left waiting for its first significant incoming move of the offseason, and is still parked on 15 senior roster players heading into the New Year.

Monday evening brought a report that former FC Cincinnati striker Brandon Vazquez is mutually parting ways with CF Monterrey, which would make him much more attractive to MLS teams looking to bring him back to a league where he had significant success.

Should Austin somehow be able to outbid and/or out-entice other teams for Vazquez’s services, it would be able to solve two of its core roster-building issues heading into the 2025 season.
