Austin FC has apparently found another international player to bolster its roster, at a position it’s already stocked up on.
At 5 p.m. on Sunday, as the U.S. men’s national team was kicking off at Jerry World to start its 2024 Copa America journey, Austin FC CEO and majority owner Anthony Precourt provided a distraction in the form of a green smoke tweet indicating a new player announcement is imminent.
Less than 20 minutes later, The Athletic’s Tom Bogert tweeted that Austin’s signed Ukrainian international center back Oleksandr Svatok, who is currently with the Ukraine national team at the 2024 Euros, and will report to his new team following the tournament, though certainly he’ll be bound to summer transfer window rules and would be eligible to play after it opens on July 18.
Here are things I learned just now (below the paywall) along with what I think this means.
