A coin flip's chance: Running the 2026 Austin FC season through the prediction machine

Computers say that Austin FC will struggle to make the playoffs in 2026. Even with that, it shows places where the team can pick up crucial additional points throughout the season.

Math is weird.

As we're in an international break between Austin FC games, I've run Austin FC's 2026 season through the American Soccer Analysis game prediction model site, which allows users to glimpse the season and individual games through 100 successive simulations (or more, if you choose) to see what the future might hold.

What it says about Austin FC is that it's a team on the cusp of the playoffs.

Out of 30 teams, with the top nine teams in each conference going to the playoffs in what could be the last year of the current playoff set-up[[1]], Verde is slated to finish 18th, with a few surprises in here given the current standings.
