Austin FC Media Landscape

Here's a look at where to get your Austin FC news (but start with Verde All Day).

You're lucky to be an Austin FC fan. I believe we have the best and widest-ranging media coverage in MLS. Here's a tour through all the sources I can recommend that aren't Verde All Day. We recommend bookmarking all of these (and following them on social media).

(Outlets are listed in alphabetical order.)

The written word

Austin American-Statesman: Colby Gordon provides Austin FC coverage and is one of the most consistent and present media reps, showing up at trainings and matches with good questions.

Austin Chronicle: Eric Goodman, who also does Olympics coverage for NBC, brings sometimes-spicy questions and sometimes-spicy takes to the table, representing Austin's venerable yet still cavalier alt-weekly.

The False Nine: It started as a parody site poking good fun at The Striker and yet has outlasted The Striker. Though it's still humor-forward, it provides fan-facing insights and observations worth checking out.

Verde All Day: You're here, so you already know what we do: Comprehensive coverage, including match coverage, highlights from media availabilities (at trainings and after matches), analysis, and features.

The podcasts

There's certainly no shortage of Austin FC podcasts.

Emergency Podcast (Apple feed, Spotify feed): The audio arm of Verde All Day, with Moisés Chiullán and Phil West weighing in about Austin FC, Austin FC II, and MLS, with some pop culture thrown in just for fun. It's the only Austin FC podcast that uses a cold open, and it's got the best theme song of all the Austin FC podcasts.

Moontower Soccer (site, Apple feed, Spotify feed): If it's Tuesday and you're a serious Austin FC fan, it's likely you're checking in to hear Landon Cotham say "Hello friends" and Jeremiah Bentley say "Hey, everybody, I'm Jeremiah Bentley." They've been podcasting together about Austin FC before it was officially a team, and their analysis, interviews, and well-reasoned points of view make them essential.

Subscribing to the Moontower feed also gets you Swoontower Soccer, with hosts Steph and Mike Crugnola providing fit checks (what players wear into the stadium before changing into their kits), analysis of players' social media accounts, interviews with the club's various Mascots of the Match, and other fun observations on off-the field aspects of the team. (They also do match previews featuring content creators from opponents, which provide additional valuable perspective heading into a match day.)

The North End Podcast (site, Apple feed, Spotify feed): This prolific podcast from Zac Graham and Ian Michaud brings match recaps and previews during the season, plenty of roster building talk, and what they like to term "the nonsense." During the preseason, they diligent sort through social media for clues to what's happening with trialists, first-teamers, and VerDos players, and they're unfailingly positive.

Suffering from Joy (Apple feed, Spotify feed): A quartet of Austin FC fans chime in on a variety of Austin FC topics. While on an irregular schedule, they're knowledgeable and bring the occasional surprise (notably, a Michael Lahoud interview shortly after last season ended).

Top Flight Podcast (Patreon site, Apple feed, Spotify feed): This bilingual podcast from We Are Austin TV features interviews, news, rumors, and match-related content. While it's not as fast and loose with opinions as the post-match Spaces they host, as they facilitate a forum for whatever fans are feeling (win, lose, or draw), they do bring their own takes to the larger conversation.

Vamos Verde (Apple feed, Spotify feed): KUT's Juan Garcia and Jimmy Maas launched this podcast in 2024 which goes in-depth with its player interviews and provides looks at Verde-adjacent culture as well as media insights. (I have been on to try to demystify Leagues Cup.)

The Verdependent Podcast (Apple feed, Spotify feed): Hosts Logan (aka Lobar) and Paul maintain "we depend on the Verde & Black for our everyday vibes," and regularly go up with new content on Thursdays.

Other notable outlets and independent creators

In addition to the regular written and podcasting content, Austin's TV stations cover the team, though it's hard to know which stations will show up to any given press event. KXAN still has a partnership with the club and plans to air (and stream) its Verde Lights preview show on Saturdays at 11 am, and it also does the best of the four major local stations at updating its website with Verde stories.

A number of independent content producers, most notably Michelle Sanchez and Laura Gallo (aka Laura La Parce), take to social media to share player interviews and other content; Gallo's even become a regular presence at VerDos games.

Otra X Favor, which also provides photos for Verde All Day, does long-form video interviews on YouTube with a number of Austin FC community members, though it also branches out into covering Austin's Latino culture.
