For Austin FC, the last two “must-win” matches have resulted in draws, which makes Saturday’s match against the Colorado Rapids perhaps even more “must-win” (if that’s possible) than the last two because of those draws.
It’s likely Verde won’t get to a “win or you’re eliminated” match until the last home game of the season, a week from Saturday against LAFC, at the earliest.
But Austin FC head coach Josh Wolff is aware of where his team is heading into this match — winless in nine straight contests and heading to a winnable away contest against the worst team in the West.
“There's no doubt — you're on the road to to Colorado, it provides challenges as it always does, but it's a place where we've had some success,” Wolff said.
“So, the guys, they've done some very good things in these last games. The rewards of three points has eluded us, and some of it’s self inflicted and those are some of the challenges, but we go there knowing we need to win, stay attached to the playoff line and the guys will be ready and hopefully, some of the guys that aren't healthy are able to help us contribute.”
